Pittsburgh is bustling with history, culture, and art, but it’s also a popular destination for sports fans! Pittsburgh sports teams include four professional teams that play football, baseball, hockey, and soccer. Here, you can watch the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, or Riverhounds play, depending on what season you visit us.
Steelers – NFL – Heinz Field
The Steelers play at home at the Heinz Field, located at 100 Art Rooney Ave. The stadium’s groundbreaking began in June 1999 and opened August 2001 with the Steelers Home Opener in October 2001. There are 65,500 seats, 7,300 club seats, 129 suites all within 1.49 million sq. ft. There are also 47 concession locations and 24 women’s and men’s restrooms, and eight family restrooms.
The Pittsburgh Panthers from the University of Pittsburgh will also play at Heinz Field. The stadium is available as an event space with six different lounges or halls depending on needs and hosts more than 300 events each year, including weddings.
Pirates – MLB
The Pittsburgh Pirates play at PNC Park, located at 115 Federal St. The field offers wonderful views of the skyline and riverfront and its downtown location is ideal for dining before a game.
PNC Park opened in 2001 with its first game in April 2001. PNC Park is actually the fifth home for the Pirates who have been playing since 1887 where they played at Recreation Park. The park includes 38,496 seats 65 suites (with four owners’ suites), and 2,900 club seats.
PNC Park is available as an event venue with 10 unique spaces for business meetings, receptions, or weddings.
Penguins – NHL
The Penguins play at the CONSOL Energy Center, located at 1001 Fifth Ave. The center opened for the 2010-2011 NHL season and holds 18,087 guests for hockey games, 1,950 club seats, and 66 suites.
The center also hosts other athletic events, concerts, and other performances throughout the year. CONSOL Energy Center has hosted WWE matches several times since its opening as well as several big name musicians.
Event space is available for rent with 13 different spaces or venues. They partner with ARAMARK for catering services.
Riverhounds – MLS
The Riverhounds play at the Highmark Stadium, 510 W Station Square Dr. The seating capacity is 3,500 but includes standing room only bringing the capacity to 4,000 for soccer matches.
The stadium has a great view of Pittsburgh’s skyline and is next to the Monongahela River. It’s available for rent for sports tournaments, private events, and even hosts concerts. The banquet has 4,000 sq. feet of usable space for up to 250 guests.
